Created by Mikaela Dalton, Kinesic Dance aims to connect dancer to audience through athletic, abstracted movement searching for the grey area between pedestrian and performative. Dalton draws from a vocabulary heavily influenced by classical lines, theatricality, and post- modern contemporary, as well as a deep interest in the physical expressions of emotion, gender, and intimacy.
the choreographer
Originally from Rhode Island, Mikaela Dalton (BFA, Jacksonville University, 2020) discovered a passion for choreography while recovering from an injury. Her first work, Used to Matter (2014), was accepted into the VKIBC Contemporary and Choreography Finals, opening the door to begin creating in earnest. While on the East coast, Dalton worked with Festival Ballet Providence School, the Berkshire Choreography Project, the Jacqueline M. Walsh School for the Arts, and company dancers from Festival Ballet in collaboration with film student Lucy Ehrlich, as well as becoming a finalist in the 2020 IODC. After moving to Chicago in 2022, Dalton began presenting works around the city at shows such as Delve Community Showcase, Delve Choreography Showcase, and the Trifecta Dance Collective, among others. Alongside their choreographic career, Dalton has danced professionally with Festival Ballet Providence, Darvin Dances, and the Mandy Milligan Dance Project.
